ANSWERS: 1
  • Litigation attorneys file and defend lawsuits before state courts, federal courts, mediators and arbitrators.

    Generally

A litigation attorney handles clients' cases when things go wrong. Litigation attorneys sue other people on behalf of their clients or defend lawsuits for their clients.

    Civil

Most litigation attorneys are civil litigators, which means they handle lawsuits between two private parties, such as in a divorce. Civil litigators do not handle criminal cases, such as when you break the law and face a fine or prison time.

    Types

Litigation attorneys have specialties. Some specialize in land use or government regulation while others specialize in finance or business dealings.

    Jurisdiction

Litigation attorneys have to be licensed in the state, or jurisdiction, in which they practice. For example, an attorney licensed to practice law in New York cannot normally appear in a Pennsylvania state court unless she is also licensed in Pennsylvania.

    Professionalism

A litigation attorney's professionalism duties include frequent communication with clients, honesty, zealous representation and candor before the courts in which they appear.
