A digital-to-analog converter box allows an analog TV to receive digital signals. The box receives the digital signal, converts it to analog, and conveys the information to your analog television, which shows the program in whatever resolution it was made for. The converter box only allows you to view the signal; it can't convert the television into an HDTV.
