Electric blankets are safer to use than other heating products, including space heaters, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Services. Electric blankets have a smaller chance of igniting and can be a safe and manageable way of staying warm during the winter.
On the Other: Electric blankets can still hold dangers
The Electric Blanket Institute warns that people who are pregnant, have diabetes or have pacemakers should be careful when using a blanket. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Services said that "While electric blankets are an effective heat source, they may also be an ignition source for a fire."
Bottom Line
Electric blankets are safe to use. With proper precautions, these blankets can be an effective source of heat during the winter and provide comfort for people with chronic pain or arthritis. Electric blankets are safer than space heaters and even fire places.
