The combination of pay and benefits received at basic training is different for everyone based on family and experience. With more experience the military values, more pay will be made at basic training.
E-Grade
Different enlisted ranks are referred to by grade. Each will have an "E" followed by a number. The lowest is E-1. The E-grade the initial service member enters the military with is based on college credit, referral and recruitment of friends, or accomplishments such as Eagle Scout.
Basic Pay
The pay in basic training, based on the 2010 charts, is E-1 $1,339; E-2 $1,622; E-3 $1,706 and E-4 $1,890. The pay for an E-1 will go up to $1,447 after four months of active duty service.
Initial Uniform Allowance
Upon arriving at basic training, another pay received is the initial uniform allowance. It is to help the basic trainee to purchase things they need during basic training.
Family Separation Pay
Service members with dependents will receive a family separation pay of $250, as of 2009. This helps with extra expenses while the household is separated.
Basic Allowance for Housing
Basic allowance for housing helps the service member with a place to live. Service members in basic training with dependents will receive BAH to take care of housing their family.
