A BitTorrent downloader is a program that allows a user to download a file that is being shared using the BitTorrent protocol. A BitTorrent downloader is also called a client.
BitTorrent Protocol
The BitTorrent Protocol is a way of sharing large files, called torrents, over the Internet. Users cannot download an entire file without allowing a portion of the file to be uploaded from their computers.
Popular clients
Popular clients include BitTorrent Mainline, uTorrent and Vuze.
Function
The BitTorrent client controls the downloading and uploading of the file. It is also responsible for assembling the file when all the pieces are downloaded.
Using the Client
To use a BitTorrent client, you provide the client with a .torrent file. The .torrent file is a small file that contains the information needed to download the larger file.
Finding Torrents
Torrent files can be found on websites such as legaltorrents.com and isohunt.com. Some software companies provide torrents as a way of downloading their software.
