<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: P5P B6 improves certain cardiovascular markers
Pyridoxal-5'-Phosphate B6, or Vitamin B6, helps reduce homocysteine levels in the blood. High homocysteine levels indicate increased risk for heart disease, clotting disorders, heart attack and stroke. Low amounts of P5P B6 in the blood relate to increased levels of C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation usually associated with heart disease.
On the Other: Triglycerides seem unaffected by P5P B6
Triglyceride levels reflect the amount of fat in the bloodstream that the body derives from dietary sources. High triglycerides usually indicate excess intake of fats and carbohydrates. Although many studies have examined the links between P5P B6 and cardiovascular markers for inflammation and increased risk of disease, no data shows the vitamin's effect on lowering triglyceride levels.
Bottom Line
Although P5P B6 positively affects heart disease indicators, it does not lower triglycerides.
