It is human nature to worry about certain situations, whether financial, social, or personal. However, uncontrolled anxiety can develop into a clinical disorder. Fortunately, anxiety can be dealt with through medication and professional support.
Anxiety Definition
According to Human Anatomy and Physiology, anxiety is a member of a class of brain disorders called neuroses. This class also includes phobias and obsessive-compulsive disorder. These are technically less severe than depression and insanity, which are psychoses.
Causes of Anxiety
The Mayo Clinic states that anxiety can be caused by a wide variety of factors, ranging from neurotransmitter imbalances in the brain to adverse life circumstances, such as stressful situations.
Anxiety Symptoms
Anxiety is characterized by a constant feeling of uneasiness and restlessness. It may cause twitching, irritability, fatigue, and even nausea and a rapid heartbeat.
Severe Anxiety
Long-term or severe anxiety can lead to depression and even drug or alcohol abuse. Insomnia and severe headaches can also arise from constant anxiety.
Treatments
There are two ways to treat anxiety. The first way is to consult a mental health physician, such as a psychologist, who can help you deal with anxiety. Secondly, medications such as antidepressants, and even certain sedatives, are available to control anxiety chemically.
