I know those words but I don't know what it means in that context. "Cherchez" is the imperative form of the verb "to look for" or "to seek out," and "le juif" means "the Jew," so the phrase "cherchez le juif" means "look for the Jew." Edit: I just saw that you had a link there so I followed it. Here's the context: "Time's Joe Klein decried 'odious attempts by Jewish extremists … to argue that the massacre perpetrated by Nidal Hasan was somehow a direct consequence of his Islamic beliefs.' While none could match Klein's peculiar cherchez-le-juif motif [...]" So, it's not really about Nasal Hasan; it's about Joe Klein. I think the author means that Klein was trying to blame Jews for anti-Islam media surrounding Hasan; like Klein was trying to find a way to lay some blame on the Jews within the whole Hasan story. I've never heard about the cherchez-le-juif motif, but it makes sense to me. I mean, if I think about racism and human behaviour, it makes sense. People tend to scapegoat, and to seek out an enemy to blame when problems arise, and in various times and places the Jew was that Enemy. ...a kind of social/systematic, racist superstition: something goes wrong? seek out the Jew!
