• That is their business.
  • They were pressured into it by the U.S. government.
  • They are playing to both sides. Mormons have a very secretive inner circle, who knows what the true doctrine is... My uncle is the bishop at a Mormon church ( I can't name it, sorry doubters) and he rarely talks about his faith with me, even though he knows I'm a born again Christian. Strange.
  • Almost every single religion has started out with polygamy. It is a way to gain more followers, out of a few people. The mormans had to denounce it once the US government declared it illegal to practice polygamy.
  • Not only did they teach it and practice it. It is their doctrine that no man will see the greatest glory if they denounce and do not practice polygamy. The only reason they stopped practicing it was because of pressure from the federal government. And that took quite some time for it to actually stop, once they officially stated it was to stop. The act of polygamy was a new and EVERLASTING structure system allegedly decreed by the LDS god and conveyed by Joseph Smith. Joseph created this epiphany in order to get Emma on board with him having sex with other women. With that said, the LDS have moved quite a distance from the teaching and original concept of their particular cult. If you want a window into the world that Joseph Smith created, you need only look too the RLDS. The RLDS are practicing true Joseph Smith/Brigham Young Mormonism. The LDS are technically apostates of their own cult.
  • This is covered by the 12th Article of Faith "12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law." Polygamy is against the law in the United States. In other countries it is still practiced in the Mormon religion. However it is absolutely not true that you cannot reach the Celestial Kingdom without practicing polygamy. It's a choice.

And if you want to know the truth about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I suggest you go to for the official doctrine. I've seen so many lies about this religion I couldn't begin to correct them all. Nor will I contend with those whose only purpose is to contend. Thats Satan's tool. I don't mind answering questions though.
  • I read one time the reason Mormons rejected polygamy was the US Congress would not make them a state of the Union unless they outlawed polygamy.
