  • You may occasionally encounter "runtime errors" while using Microsoft's Internet Explorer. What are these errors, and, more important, how do you fix them?

    Inactivity

    Some websites have a limit on how long you can be logged in without doing anything. A runtime error in this case can mean you have been idle too long, have been logged out automatically, and must log back in.

    Debugging

    If you receive a runtime error that requests that you debug a script, this means there is an error in the script or coding on the website you are visiting. You are not required to do anything; the issue lies with the website, and it is their problem to fix.

    Closing Explorer

    Some runtime errors tell you to close Internet Explorer. When this happens, Web browsing has slowed, and Explorer needs to be reset. Quit the program and start it up again.

    Visual C++

    A runtime error in Visual C++ is an error within Internet Explorer's program code. If you are not familiar with the Visual C++ language, consult a computer service professional.

    Windows Runtime Error

    If you receive a Windows runtime error while in Internet Explorer, and it indicates that Windows needs to shut down, then your file within Windows for Explorer has been damaged and needs to be repaired.
