During pregnancy, many women complain of having more saliva than usual. No one is really sure of the cause. One reason may be that swallowing is limited when a woman experiences severe morning sickness, thus saliva builds up in the mouth.

Difficulty Swallowing
If a person has a condition involving the throat where swallowing is a problem, then saliva can build up in the mouth. According to the Mayo Clinic, 1 to 2 quarts of saliva is produced daily.
Side Effect of Medication
