  • My take on the song is that the singer is in love with a girl who views another man as perfect, like "Jesus". He wants the girl to see that the guy isn't perfect, or take him away. So He is tempted with thoughts of actually killing him (i.e. sin or the devil putting thoughts into his head-the devils water) and though he plays around with those thoughts (it ain't so sweet) He wouldn't do it, but he still thinks about it (dipping his feet in every once in awhile)
  • Well, perhaps it doesn't mean anything? A lot of bands, when asked about their songs, said that there was no hidden meaning, they just liked the way the words sounded together! But as a songwriter, I would guess that it means that everyone should be a "good" person, the writer has lived the evil ways and it wasn't as much fun as he thought (devil's water ain't so sweet). The risks are greater than the satisfaction. The writer suggest following the righteous path (don't have to drink it right now), but if you slip up once in a while and do something naughty or wrong, it's not a huge sin(you can dip your feet every once in a little while), just get back on the right track again and you'll be ok. Of course, my advice would be to not bother to dip your feet at all!
