  • It is *possible* that the shift linkage is slightly out of adjustment or some of the parts are worn. That's the inexpensive answer. If all of that is OK, then the problem is inside the transmission with the 4th gear synchronizer and shift collar. Fixing that requires removal and teardown of the transmission. If it is internal to the transmission, you might try just not using 4th gear. You can get by in most situations with 3rd and 5th gear. Good luck
