  • I always wanted to get into interior design myself, so I had to investigate the pros and cons a few years back (I put my creativity into becoming a school teacher instead)....here is a great answer I got from another website: "The hardest thing about being an interior designer is probably selling your design to the client. You have to be very confident of your design so you can make the client get behind you. Also, studying interior design is not easy. At many colleges, interior design is a selective major. And even if you manage to be accepted, you will have to undergo portfolio reviews regularly. Additionally, it is a somewhat expensive major. You'll definitely have to buy a computer with some power to be able to run some architectural programs. Art markers and pencils and some of the other materials required are somewhat expensive. Lastly, for the cons, interior design is becoming a regulated career, Such as that of architects. To be a full fledged interior designer in many states, one has to have a degree and a combination of work experience. This will enable you to take the NCDIQ exam. Once this exam is passed, you are given a number that qualifies you to use the title Interior Designer. In some states you have to be registered. On the Pro side, interior design can be a very rewarding career. There are many routes you can take. For instance you can work in furniture stores and galleries. You be focus on residential or commercial design. Some designers work for huge firms."
