Why on Earth would you want to put a baby to sleep in a dresser drawer? The fact that you put this question in "Day Care" is pretty alarming.... Better to just lay some blankets down on the floor and put them to sleep there.

For starters don't close the drawer with the baby in it.

Dresser drawers are not cribs. You should not put a baby into one to sleep.

You need to make something like a little mattress or cushion that fits tightly in the bottom of the drawer. The outermost cover for the mattress (like a bottom sheet) needs to fit snuggly and cup under the cushion. Make the mattress with a piece of heavy cardboard cut to the size of the bottom of the drawer. Layer soft material evenly and then cover with sheeting. The "sheet" should fold under the cardboard and be secured with tape or some sort of tie or even quickly hand sewn. It needs to be easy to change for laundering. Don't have the drawer secured into the opening in the chest even if pulled out. Too much risk. Place the drawer next to your bed but not on the floor. Use a sturdy table. Years ago I worked with a guy who actually made a newborn bed out of an old drawer; he said his grandparents claimed to have kept two babies (twins) in dresser drawers and thought it was a fun project to make for his first little one. This is how I would go about making a drawer bed. I'm no pro here. I personally put my babies in their crib, in their own room, when they were born. I skipped the whole bassinet thing.

If you can't afford a crib it was stupid to let yourself get pregnant.

I dont see anything wrong with this question. Ideally a baby should sleep in a basinett or a crib, but if a dresser drawer is all you have, then I think its very wise to seek advise on how to make it safe for the baby. Thats what they used to use back in the old days. I would just put a folded small pad or towel in the bottom of the drawer, being careful not to leave any bunched up anywhere that the baby can put his face into or pull over his face. Be certain that the wood on the drawer doesnt have any peeling paint or splinters. To be safe though, you can line the drawer (bottom, inside sides, and outside) with a piece of cotton cloth (flat bedsheet perhaps) and secure to the BOTTOM SIDE (underneath) of the drawer, then fit a tightly folded pad or towel in the drawer for the baby to lay on. Good luck

ummm if you can get online to write this and post it and check and whatever, head on over to craigs list & look under free, sure there is a bassinet or crib listed, if not place an add under wanted.
