Both are acceptable, though it usually depends on your geographical location. For the record if I were a teacher I doubt I would take points off if spelled either way.

It should be colour. That's the orginal spelling. I think America is the only place that spells it "color". I guess we're just trying to be different.

I like in the UK, but I always stick to color when programming.

In American English it is color and in British English is colour. I grew up taking British English and so it is colour for me.

The correct spelling in written English is colour.Many words are altered by English speaking nations as they find them easier to pronounce.As long as we all understand the alternative spelling of the words it really does not matter.
