Sure it does. It motivates and creates better products through competition and gives the people better choices. It's called Capitalism. It also creates more jobs.

I was going to say no, but after reading the answers above, there are quite few valid points regarding the rise of employment, the better production of goods and options for those that never had the right choices, so all in all, I guess its a split 50 % each way :)
