actually, most have a similar price for similar services, until that is, it looks like you have more money and you can afford to pay more. Most lawyers charge what they think you can pay... My husbands an attorney, so I'm an expert of sorts.

I'm sure it's common. My brother in-law on the other hand has been known to send back money to clients.

Well that is based on if you think a $500 retainer and $100 per hour is overcharging. VERY COMMON.

no i dont think so, i mean, some people are scumbags and will do that but you get that in every game, not just law. as far as i know most wont do it

Define overcharge. If you want to get out of a mess, be it financial or possible incarceration, do it yourself. When you lose your money or are sitting in jail, think about whether you would have considered legal services as too expensive.

It's legal to overcharge as long as there's someone willing to pay. Overcharging is common in class action suits.

Let's just say, demand an itemized bill. Also, while a lawyer is working for you keep up with when you talk to him and for how long. Question those 30-minute telephone consultations that you don't remember.
