  • This is nonsense.Stereotype.Don't buy into that shit.*
  • Cause it's more tender than dog.
  • Because in some parts of S.E. Asia. They do... But not in China. It is a misunderstanding.
  • Only in a few places in some parts of southeast Asia is cat used as a rare food.
  • Because cats catch too many of the appetizing rodents.
  • Because some SE Asians eat cats, but hey, you gotta admit the cat and Chinese restaurant jokers are funny :)
  • Well they actually do over in China and such. Sadly..but when your hungry a cat look delicious from what a friend told me who has lived in conditions like that. Somebody stole her dog, offered her some of the the meat. But I really think that in America its just somewhat of a joke. But who knows
  • Because it's happened.
  • i think once upon a time it was true, maybe a tradition from thier homeland?
  • Its just an old wives tale - complete crap. I am sure that some of the meat they use is pretty low quality, but I dont think cat is a normal part of the menu! That being said, I pretty much stick to the vegetarian dishes when ordering out!
  • There is a Chinese saying that "Chinese people will eat anything with four legs except a table and anything that flies except an airplane". But I doubt you would find any Chinese restaurants in the west that would cook or serve cat. If you wish to check out some different Chinese food, might I suggest http://www.impactlab.com/2008/04/29/a-visit-to-beijings-exclusive-penis-restaurant/
  • because the "chicken" don't look like chicken
  • Because on the way home from the pub on a Fri night it's funny to nip into your local takeaway & ask for a Cat Chow-Mein!
  • Because it is a fact: http://www.messybeast.com/eat-cats.htm
  • I saw a documentary on TV about this, they pay about 10pence each for them but I am certain that they do not do this in USA and UK. I love cats and was shocked but on the other hand we eat lamb and pork and what could be cuter than say a pet lamb or piglet. I don't like thinking about it but if we had all been brought up on eating cat along with beef, lamb and pork would we be so horrified? I had to admit that I have cut out pork from my diet as I do not agree with the way they are killed but am a hyprocite as I continue to eat chicken and beef and lamb occasionally.
  • Chinese culture whether it be food or people has always seemed "exotic" to Western eyes. Maybe it's because the Chinese like to mind their own business. Anyhow, this exoticism breeds tall tales and half-truths. True there probably once were banquets meant for emperors which had bear paws, snakes, etc... or people in the backwoods munching on cats every once and awhile but who's to say that would be any more weird than the French eating snails or horsemeat. That seems kind of racist to me. However I highly doubt that Chinese Retaurants cook cats. Have you ever smelled cat urine or cat dung? The ammonia flavor of the excrements surely must give a hint to the taste of the meat. It would be impossible to pass off as beef/chicken pork, etc... Also the hassle of garnering hundreds of stray cats a month would be impossible for a restaurant to sustain. Plus if you were a cheap restaurant owner, wouldn't you rather just pay 29 cents a pound for a whole chicken than risk everything (fines, loss of reputation, etc) just to serve cat? It simply doesn't make sense.
