No. When it hits the floor - toss it.
-
Yeah, I have two kids and food is always ending up on the floor. I've given up trying to get there before they pick it up and eat it. I just try to keep the floors clean so they don't eat to much dirt.
-
G'day Idntnoeveythng, Thank you for your question. I generally don't preferring to put it in the bin and clean it up if necessary. If I drop it, it is generally pretty messy and not worth retrieving anyway. Regards
-
No anything on the floor goes in the bin
-
It depends where I drop it. If I'm walking down the street eating and I drop something on the sidewalk, there's no way I'd pick it up. But if I'm at home and I drop something, depending on what it is, I might pick it up. But it's always been the 10 second rule here!
-
nope, i used to a little, but it's disgusting...my little sister calls it the "5 minute rule," now THAT'S disgusting!
-
No, I use the 15 minute rule. (I was just kidding. I normally put it in the garbage)
-
In my house, yes. Outside of the house, absolutely not.
-
It's the amount of time needed for me to relax and breath before I answer one of those questions from my wife.
-
i personally don't use that rule but do know of people using a 20 second rule haha.
-
Depends on what it is where it's dropped and how hungry I am.
-
Honestly, it depends on two things: 1. How clean the floor is 2. The nature of the food item. If its something dry and solid, it seems less likely to pick up ick than something moist and porous.
-
sure do, no food goes to waste when im around!
-
not really..its all about picking it up, blowing on it and then eating it
-
no. if it hits the floor, it goes to the dog.
-
Depending where it fell. If it was at home, which the floors are clean, yes. But if it were in the streets at public, then no, it'd go straight to the wastebasket.
-
yep, with limits depends on where it was dropped and what kind of food it was......with a 5 and 2 year old if I tossed everything that was dropped then I would be reooking a lot of food.
-
Yes, but not on carpeting.
-
Myth Busters put this rule to the test last week and discovered that it is indeed a myth. They found that plenty of bacteria gets on an item in 5 seconds, enough germs to render the item dangerous. They found that it's not the amount of time an item's on the floor but how dirty the floor is.
-
I have to admit, I do...especially with chocolate...LOL
-
if its my floor and i know its clean but it depends on some things like a sticky food that lands on carpet will pick up fuzz so in that case its a no but a cracker that falls on a hard floor is ok
-
Yep and I bump it up to 10 if need be.
-
In school we use a 10 minute rule, so if the teacher doesn't turn up, we leave!
-
I watched a MythBusters episode about this. The conclusion was that if the food was dry it picked up less germs regardless of how much time it spent on the floor. I would only use the 5 second rule if the food was dry, the surface it fell on was just cleaned, and it was going to be cooked.
-
ill do it if its in my house, and its for me. nad if the 5 second rules expires i switch to the 10 second rule lol
-
All the time. If i drop something. but i have changed it to if im feeling lazy its the 3 second rule because i dont want to get up.
-
Definitely not. I'll sometimes pick up something I dropped and still eat it if I think the surface that it fell on is not too dirty but I don't go by any rules... If a chip fell into dog poo, I'm not going to eat it if it was only in it for under 5 seconds.
-
HELL YEAH I USE THE % SECOND RULE!!! Little do u know the 5 sec rule actually makes the world go around!!!
-
5? Mine is the 10-second rule!
-
No, less than a second is enough for whatever I'm holding to be on the ground and contract germs that people carry in from the streets...
-
My husband perfers to use the 5 second rule. I just throw it in the trash and get them some more.
-
I was going to write if I home yes, but the truth is no. If it falls on the floor I won;t eat it. I was as my friends house and she kept feedng her son stuff that fell on the floor. Gross. If you won't eat it why should your kids?
-
Only if it lands on something like the table, couch, desk, bed, etc. Anywhere else is gross. I'm a TOTAL germ freak.
-
Yep - unless, of course the particular food item was dropped onto the toilet seat...
-
The no patience, whip some a** in 5 seconds rule? yep
-
Never again after watching the Mythbusters episode on this.
-
i think ghengis kahn was on to something when he made that rule, usually it depends on how dirty the floor is though like if there is cat hair all over then i most likely throw the food away.
-
When we were kids we used to say: God made dirt, dirt wont hurt, put it in your mouth and let it work! Now Ehhh not so hot on eating dirt.
-
I use the 5-second rule, expect for things that will cling a noticeable amount of dirt to them. I tell people who are grossed by my action that “ God made dirt, dirt don’t hurt”
-
Depends WHAT it is, and where it's at. Lol!
-
Sure. A little "Shoe Pepper" never hurt anyone, Right?
-
At home it gets thrown, camping I just wipe it off. Why is that I wonder. Maybe I think outside in the woods dirt is better?
-
Only on dry foods (and, I always blow it off).
-
I use the 10 second rule.
-
Depends what it is, and which way it lands really :P
-
No way that's gross.....ly underestimating what I am capable of.... 20 seconds? a couple minutes, maybe?
-
yep . Especialy on my customers
-
not really. i think if i dropped something into crap i wouldnt eat it. :D but at home if i quickly drop something on the floor i feel more comfortable eating it
-
Meh, I go by the 2 minute rule.
-
Hell, in my house, if the dog didn't get to it first then it's still free game.
-
All the time, a little dirt and bacteria never hurt anyone, it probably does a little good.
-
Maybe,if you can answer a question for me please What is the 5 second rule?
-
No once it hits the floor I no longer desire to have it.
-
And if it lands on a dog turd? What then?
-
Only if it's dry food on a clean tile or wood floor.
-
Nope, however, I try VERY hard to use the one about posting duplicates. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/153466
-
FIVE SECONDS is not enough for JUGS.....OHH NO,,,but please tell me Jonathan ,,,,JUST what is the 5 second rule,,,,,hope i can get the MEASURE of this question,,,,
-
Hmmm..more like the 5 minute rule...money's tight right now lol
-
All the time. and i don't even care if someone is watching. :)
