Not to healthy minded people. Outside influences don't alter stable minds.

There is a condition called "seasonal affective disorder (SAD)" that is caused by winter type weather. So I guess if you are in a rainy area, and it doesn't stop for a long time, it is possible. For me, though, I love the rain, it is cleansing and sounds comforting. I love the smell of rain as well.
-
I do not think it does. Many novels ,stories, and movies have depicted rainy days with depression, sadness etc. They have associated happiness with sunshine as well. It might be just an association brought on by these things.
-
Rain as a factor is no where near severe enough to cause depression. A mixture of psycological factors and chemical imbalances amongst other things are the main causes of depression, not if there is a slight drizzle. However it can make people feel sad or down, but not as far as depression to my knowledge
-
I think it might just be the thought of being stuck inside
-
it can cause bad (and also good)mood, but not the depression, bad thouthts causes depression and it may seem that rain or any other factor causes it
-
no i love rain it reminds me that there is life and nature

For me, if I am already feeling down about something, the fact that its raining makes it worse. Its much easier to feel happier when its sunny. It probably is lack of sunlight and being stuck indoors, it feels like there's nothing to do and no where to go.
-
not really, I love rain :)
-
No. There is a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder which is caused by lack of exposure to sunlight... which can be triggered by living in an area with TOO MUCH rain and not enough sun, but it's not the rain causing the problem, it's the lack of sun exposure.
-
It does for me. I don't own a car and when it rains I have to walk in it at least 15 minutes each way to the train station.
-
I don't think rain does, but the gloomyness of fall and winter does..
-
You need the Sun to get the proper vitamins needed to have a good physical health, so an extended period of rain or other types of weather where it's dark and gloomy can certainly affect your mood if your physical health is starting to fail.

-
Sometimes when the whether is gloomy for days at end persons prone to depression do feel down.
-
No...people create their own depression. Rain is a wondrous thing that we take granted for. We create our own feelings based on things or people around us, so for some it may bring them down, but that isnt for ALL.
-
I live in mid-Wales where it rains all the time; every day. It affects me badly - and makes me very, very sad and unmotivated. I have to move.
-
Washington state has the highest suicide rate of all the US states. It has the most grey days and rainy days. A lac of sunshine can cause depression. No doubt, unless of course you think it is just a coincidence that Washington state has the most overcast days and the most suicides.

My Doctor has said that changes in barometric pressure (often associated with rain storms) can cause swelling of the fluid between the joints. This is why some people feel weary and in pain and say things like "oh my aching bones!" and claim to be able to tell when it is going to rain....
-
No. On the contrary I feel happy when it rains.
-
Lack of sunshine is not healthy. I was severly depressed once in my life. I got one of those little full spectrum light boxes. I sit in front of it for 30 minutes a day while using the computer. I must tell you, it has changed my life. I can do whatever I want now. And honestly, somebody I know personally would have to die for me to get depressed. Sunshine is groovy.
-
Rain depresses some people. But, inclement weather doesn't effect my moods. In fact, I like to sit in my porch swing and listen to and smell the rain.
-
Not rain specifically, but the other elements that are connected to elements such as rain - lack of sunlight/ gloomy/dark days etc can. Lack of sunlight is related scientifically to depression. It was found that in Iceland, where the apparantly have one of the lowest amounts of sunlight per day/month, the suicide rate was amonth the highest in the world. Sunlight provides vitamins that people in sunlight deprived countries wouldn't get. I can't remember most of the figures from the study but thats the basics.
