I believe they existed, however I think they looked more like a goator deer and less like a horse. There are Biblical verses that mention the Unicorn, but in other translations they mention them as wild oxen. Then there are the many varieties of horned animals that from time to time have a genetic abnormality and only grow one horn. There was a deer with one centralized horn in the news last winter. Perhaps the legend of the Unicorn originates from such abnormalities. Another possibility is long horn deer, from the side they can look as if they only have one horn. The one thing I am sure of is that in one form or another they existed.

It is possible but most likely it was a bony protuberance giving credence to the myth.

I think it was a misunderstand between 2 cultures, one describing a single horned animal with four legs like say a horse but no pictures and no better way of explaining it, there is also as someone mentioned the possibility of a genetic abnormalady in a certain species, I could only guess which ones .. I still like the Horse type though and there mythical history .... ~Nemo~
