  • It's short for Emotional. It's whiny, poppy-poop music, tight pants, eyeliner, dramatic haircuts... It's being all sad and deep and artsy, too. Silly deal, I think.
  • It's basically little whiney "Oh woe is me" people. They do it because they are depressed about random things.
  • well, my son who is now 18 was 'Emo' for a while a couple of years back, he basically grew his hair, wore black clothes/eyeliner/nailpolish and listened to really depressing music (his friends followed suit i might add) they seemed to think it was 'all the rage' at the time.. thankfully they all grew out of it!!
  • Some of the things people on here are offending... I'm an emo with a lot of emo friends...I have depression and am in therapy- even my therapist says being emo is nothing bad. A lot of the time, emo is a fad.. If it helps any, here's a link that might help you: http://unorginal.webs.com/emomythvsfact.htm And if that doesn't help, you could also go on amazon and buy the book, "Everybody Hurts". Its a yellow book that explains almost all things involved with emo culture.
  • i think that labels are crappy and some emo ppl have real problems they have had a hard life like me so you emo haters back off
  • Wow,everyone makes it sound like a scary cult! - They are music lovers or musicians that don't just care about a beat but actually listen to the words. They might not care about becoming famous but about connecting with an audience and writing meaningful music
  • Firstly, let me make it clear that i have nothing at all against emo's. My idea of an emo is someone who cuts themselves, is depressed about life, wears skinny jeans, tight tops, have a side fringe, love their music and like arty things.
  • For the most part, emo is just a style of dress and liking in music. Here is an answer of Keysha's that goes into it. She did some research to answer it this completely: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/7495376 Frankly, I do not like this fad but, if my child were to become "emo," other than the cutting (yes, I know that not all do it but a good chunk do) and what I am about to show you, I would grit my teeth and bear it, knowing that eventually my child would grow out of it. The main thing I do not like about the emo subculture is, frankly, the moping and whining. Before any emo ABers jump on me, yes, I know that not all are like that and, if my child was emo and did not do that or cut, I would not have a problem. If they were cutting to be "cool" with their friends, they would go to a psychiatrist and I would make cutting so annoying for them that I think they would stop. Of course, the psychiatrist would be one I chose and I would NOT choose an enabler. If I had a child and they turned to this subculture, I would be watching VERY closely for this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p95_eF3bD1w
  • first emo meant depressed kids that cut themselves now it's a style they wear skinny jeans, have bright colored, clip on hair extenstions, destroyed converse shoes, the girls wear tank tops that are 4 sizes to small, way too much make up, ugly home-made rainbow bracelets because they all pretend to be bi-sexual for attention, and they love to draw/read anime
