I have seen people answer "I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express" to some questions. Is there a joke/meaning behind this?

Holiday Inn had a series of commercials for Holiday Inn Express which implied that anyone who stayed at them were so smart for doing so that they were basically a genius. So all their commercials would invariably revolve around how smart these people were for staying at a Holiday Inn Express by putting them in outlandish situations where they were doing things the average person couldn't do. One was a tour group at a nuclear power plant: during the tour, alarms went off, people paniced and were at a loss as to what to do to protect the reactor. One guy in the tour group reaches out and pushes a button, bringing everything back under control. Someone asks him "Are you a nuclear engineer?" and he replies "No. But I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!" Another one showed KISS on tour again, and their agent greets them after an amazing comeback show only to discover NOBODY was actually the original KISS members. Again, they replied "No. But we DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!" . .
