If you take a look at the link below you will see what I consider photography as a true art form. It shows the works of Anne Geddes, photography of babies. My Sister was a collector of her works. So, yes, I think photography can be viewed as a true beautiful art form. http://www.mouserunner.net/Feat_AGeddesStart +5

Yes. It can be functional as well in the way that painting a wall is functional compared to painting a an artistic mural.
-
Yes, how you position your subject, choose your background and lighting is definitely an art.
-
Yes it is and a beautiful one that everyone can try, and enjoy, with not much experience everyone can have their own masterpiece hanging on their wall Art by camera is for for the masses not just the few:) +++++
-
I believe it is - especially when the environment or subject is manipulated for a different prospective
-
For sure - I saw this one picture at the Met once that just blew my mind, but I wouldn't have ordinarily noticed it if someone else hadn't taken a picture of it.
-
Absolutley! I dabble in aviation photography, it takes a certain eye to really capture the moment! Good Question.
-
I think so most definitely
-
It is to me :)
-
anyone can push a button. =D soooo.... sure, wth? why not =D
-
well of course, but today anyone with a camera calls them self a photographer
-
Yes, to me it is.
-
Absolutely.
-
define "true" I think it can be art.
-
Of course. Art is supposed to project beauty and emotion. Photography does (or should do) both.
-
Definitely so. It takes ability, a trained eye, patience and knowledge of a variety of different techniques, mediums and equipment.
-
That's very debatable. I think if it is then it's a low art form. For example, anyone can get lucky and take a great picture. I've never heard of anyone getting lucky and writing a great book.
-
definitely
-
yes, i wish i took more photography classes, but i'm more of the drawing type of artist.
-
Of course it is!! Good photography requires the eye of an artist. Composition, light direction, color sensitivity and making the subject more interesting than it really is.
-
It certainly is, as the photography of Ansel Adams shows: http://www.anseladams.com/
-
Yes, but the truth of it is the makers of the camera itself have a greater hand in the production of said art than the photographer actually does. Just consider how many people can take a great picture as opposed to how many people can actually design and build a working camera.
-
Yes, of course it is!
-
Art is the ability to capture the artist's emotions through a medium, regardless of what it really is. Yes.
-
Absolutely.
-
Oh yeah definitely. +5
-
Oh sure, definitely. Just look at the works of Ansel Adams or Annie Lebovitz to name just two.
-
yes
-
Depends on what is in the photograph, if it is something like this, then yes for sure. http://www.hq69.com/galleries/hegre_art_evy_oily/hegre_art_evy_oily_012.php
-
It is. It takes good skill for good photography. I even think of music as a form of art.
-
