ANSWERS: 7
  • 3/4x - 6 = x + 2 -8 = 1/4x x = -32
  • Do your own homework, kid.
  • 1st ged rid of the fractions by multiplying both sides by 4. Then you will have 3(x-8)=2(2x+4). Distrubute and get 3x-24=4x+8. Since 4 (the coefficient on the variable) is bigger than the three, subtract 3x from both sides to get -24=x+8. now subtract 8 from both sides to get -32=x. Now do your homework.
  • 3/4(x - 8) = 1/2(2x + 4) 3/4x-32=1/4x+8 3(4x+8)=1(4x-32) 12x+24=4x-32 12x-4x=-24-32 8x=-56 x=-7 but im not sure lol
  • What bit of the question are you stuck on? Think of the equation as a balance with two balance pans. If you do the same to each side, the scales will stay balanced. The aim is to turn one side into 'x' so the other side will have the answer. See the fractions? Fractions make it harder. You can eliminate fractions by multiplying through by the common denominator. Multiplying by any denominator that you have will help: so on the left you have a denominator of 4, so if you multiply both sides by four you get: 3 (x - 8) = 2 (2x + 4) and the fractions have gone. 3(x-8) means three lots of (x-8) (x-8)+(x-8)+(x-8) same as three x less three eights. which is 3x - 24 Do the same on the right: 3x - 24 = 4x + 8 I think you can do the rest - just keep the two sides balanced and remember you're looking to get x on its own on one side.
  • Whenever in doubt on an algebra question, I always select an odd number for the answer, preferably 7 or 3. Hope that helps!
  • [^^^] = [ 3/4 (x - 8) = 1/2 (2x + 4) ] = [ 3(x - 8) / 4 = 1(2x + 4) / 2 ] = [ 3(x - 8) / 4 = (2x + 4) / 2 ] = [ 3(x - 8) / 4 = (2x + 4) *2 / 2 * 2 ] = [ 3(x - 8) / 4 = (2x + 4) *2 / 4 ] = [ 3x - 24 / 4 = 4x + 8 / 4 ] = [ { ( 3x - 24 ) / 4 } * 4 = { ( 4x + 8 ) / 4 } * 4 ] = [ { ( 3x - 24 ) } = { ( 4x + 8 ) } ] = [ ( 3x - 24 ) = ( 4x + 8 ) ] = [ 3x - 24 = 4x + 8 ] = [ 3x - 8 - 24 = 4x ] = [ (+3x) - (+8) - (+24) = (+4x) ] = [ (+3x) + (-8) + (-24) = (+4x) ] = [ (-8) + (-24) = (+4x) - (+3x) ] = [ (-32) = (+1x) ] = [ (-32) = (+1)x ] = [ (-32)/(+1) = x ] = [ (-32) = x ] = [ x = (-32) ]
