I was unfamiliar with Jung's concepts until I was prompted to do a quick review by your Q, but his views seem to closely mirror my own meditations, regarding the "shadow self", and the importance of understanding these aspects of self. It is possible, in my opinion, to pass through this shadow zone, and come out the other side an enlightened individual, but for many, it can be very dangerous as well. Some who become aware of this portion of self, can come to believe that that alone is truly who they are, and behave accordingly; possibly leading to self-destructive, sociopathic or even worse behaviors. These individuals, once again, in my opinion, have not understood, nor completed the journey through that dark corridor and have become lost in it. The delving into the inner-self is not for everyone, due to the frightening things that live there, but passing out the other side with a deeper understanding of one's existence, is wonderful to say the least.
