  • Most ISP's (Internet Service Providers) have some kind of "Parental Controls" that can be turned on and off, or you can have different settings for different logins.
  • Unfortunately because computers can't "think" and reason the same way that humans can, there is no easy way to get rid of the porn without hindering your own searches. It seems like you cant go to a search engine these days without finding a link to a porn site. You could type in something as non-sexual as BASKET WEAVING but somehow a pornographer finds a way to associate his site with straw baskets and gets his site in the top 10. Every day search engine providers are working on keeping porn and offensive content out of their searches (except for those who specifically look for it) but its like a never ending game where one guy is constantly trying to "one up" the other. And keep in mind, a porn site isnt always going to tell your blocking software, "Hey I am a porn site! Block me please!" Personally I think that it all boils down to being a personal responsibility issue. I have asked my employees not to use the internet for recreational purposes in order to avoid future problems down the road. Now if they do it anyway and get stuck with a million popups that wont go away, thats only going to make it harder for them to do their job.
  • there are a few search engines out there that allow you to set them to only allow non pornographic content, There is also the content advisor within IE I personally however would recommend getitng norton Internet Security, as it not only provides parental controls by user, it provides firewall protection and antivirus protection. within Internet Security you can set it up that different users have different settings, you simply set your computer up with another account called friends (start control panel users and groups, (make sure it's a limited account)) then install NIS, tell it you do want parental controls go into the program, and tell it that you want users that coorespond to the windows logons. then go in and set them to a teenager and set all of the parental settings that you want (by setting it teenager they can't modify the settings when they sign on) it will provide firewall protection, parental controls, antivirus protection, and is WELL worth the money. (also I would recommend getting spybot, adaware, and spyware blaster (info on their websites and what to do with them available elsewhere in this topic) if you are going to be surfing pornographic sites, so that you don't get all the spyware that normally comes with those sites.) (they are good to have even if you don't surf those sites.) spyware companies love to advertise on porn sites. Hope this helps KingNetSurfer
