  • Because it's fun and it tastes good.... real good.
  • because it makes them feel good. they like it.
  • They may just try it out in the beginning for a number of reasons such as when socializing. BUT by the time they realize it's really bad for them... their addicted! and it is really difficult to let go and stop smoking. I've been trying to get my uncle to stop him from smoking for quite a few years now!
  • it isnt fun, it isnt good, it is addictive!! My whole family smokes, and unfortunately I learned the habit from them. It is simply a learned habit. Unfortunately!!
  • They trivialise it. If it continues to bother them, they go have a smoke and calm down.
  • Because no one lives forever, if you calculate the entire span of time since mans ancestors slithered out of the primordial ooze, and compared to the hands of a 24 hour clock, your brief existance here would only register .0008th of a second. Since your only here for a short while, many feel they might as well enjoy themselves while they are here, no one lives forever, we all got a guaranteed ticket on the death express folks, you won't miss it, and it won't miss you, so crack a 40 and smoke a spleef while you still can, your only here for a limited time and have a guaranteed expiration date. - THIS PAGE WAS TROLLED BY SOMEGUY007 ON 1/30/07 @ 6:50 AM. • Because they are sad addicts
  • Probably because they are addicted to the nicotine in the cigarette, and also people become accustomed to always having that cigarette between their fingers and quitters often complain of not knowing what to do with their hands. If people could see the damage inside their bodies that the smoking is responsible for, they may have more of an urge to stop but because the internal damage is 'invisible' they often don't realise until it is too late. There will always be the group of smokers who, despite knowing how bad it is for them, will continue to smoke for all of the above reasons, plus the fact that they actually get great enjoyment from it and are not prepared to give up something they enjoy so much.
  • They crave the nicotine rush and are addicted. I am amazed how many people I still see smoking, esp young people, when we know what we now know about the effects of smoking on the lungs.
  • because its a social thing, thereore it has emotional attachment. Also is part of an oral fixation thats with us since birth
  • THE ANTI-TROLL MOVEMENT; A NOTE ON TROLL'S. What is a TROLL? A Troll is usually a newb who opens an account with the intent on using this account for malicious down rating or harassment purposes, they are usually Anonymous accounts. These false accounts have no purpose other than to harrass, defame, spam, or rate down, honest and sincere account holders who have worked hard and have spent long hours on AB to earn their title and position of authority. A Troll's attempt at downrating is usually feeble and futile. AB has implemented a new rating system that went into effect on 11/06 and it is very effective in controlling the amount of downrating a malicious troll can do. Every AB member, including those in high authority are limited on how many positive or negative ratings they can give each user, each week. Thus, it would take a newb Troll months if not years to harm or cause damage to an AB members account. For instance if a Troll was to maliciously attempt to downrate a level 55 authority, the effects would barely register. The new rating system greatly reduces the impact of the malicious Troller, reducing the effects of their presense to the equivalent nuisance, of a knat at a BBQ picnic. Harmless and pathetic... they are more just a nuisance than anything, and their presense here on AB is more than often short lived. AB Members that hold a high ranking authority are very cohesive when it comes to battleing these trolls. Many in high authority are part of the ANTI-TROLL MOVEMENT, anyone can become a member by simply stating it in your profile, ANTI-TROLL MEMBERS voluntarily repair the damage of malicious attacks against forums and individuals when such malicious action comes to their attention. This warning puts emphasis on all those potential trolls, that your efforts to harm an authority will be met with wasted time and effort and total futility. Also, keeping in respects of AB ethics, those in high authority have a greater rating ability than a lesser authority. The damage a high authority can inflict upon a troll or lesser authority who gets out of line can be nothing short of devastating to ones name and credibility. But those with very high authority seem very responsible with it and are in their position to use it justly to preserve the AB forum in and of itself. The high authority is united in this cause. That is the reward and respect that you win every time you gain a level of authority, from contributor, on up to sage, and beyond, we are all subject to our peers. Every member of AB started out as a contributor, just like you, so we all share that same respect and understanding. It is the unsung duty of those of us who have a higher authority to assist our new honest contributors and make them feel welcome and accepted into our forum. Those of you who enter here with malicious intent in your hearts will be dealt with accordingly and swiftly. I suggest you all to read post 11 on this blog for a briefing on what you can expect as a contibutor to our forum. It has a lot of useful information that you should know. Thank you. • It is very hard to give up an addiction. At the end of the day you could leave the house and be killed by a vehicle, we are all aware of health risks involved in smoking a lot of the time it is personal choice
  • My mother is dying of smoking-associated diseases. She says she could not quit smoking because the power of addiction was so strong. She also feared gaining weight. She didn't quit even though she knew she was harming her children, both of whom have lung damage from being exposed to her second-hand smoke and one of whom suffered from excruciating earaches due to her smoking: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003046.htm NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH WEBSITE: "The following steps may help prevent earaches: Avoid smoking near children. Smoking has been shown to cause millions of ear infections each year in children." http://www.audiologyonline.com/news/news_detail.asp?news_id=518 Earaches in children linked to smoking while pregnant: "Infants whose mothers smoke both during and after pregnancy have an increased risk of suffering chronic ear infections, researchers report. 'There's plenty of problems that infants exposed to smoke in the womb have--ear infections are another possible propensity,' study author Dr. Judith E. C. Lieu, an instructor in the department of otolaryngology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, told Reuters Health. 'It's one more reason to get mothers to quit smoking (while pregnant).' " She was also told that one of her children was allergic to tobacco smoke, and could develop asthma if she didn't quit smoking around her kids. Nonetheless, she continued to smoke until forced to quit cold-turkey in a hospital after a heart attack broght about by smoking. Now, she is dying slowly and painfully of emphysema and COPD (chronic obstrucive pulmonary disease) due to the smoking; has had additional heart attacks; and we're just waiting for the day lung cancer shows up. And she says it was because it was too hard to stop. The nicotine had that much of a grip on her. Her own life, and her children's lives, were not important enough overcome the addiction on her own. She says no teenager believes they will die of smoking, not in their hearts. So that's why she started, and that's why she can't stop.
  • Its an addiction, not only to nicotine but to the ritual of smoking.
  • I wouldn't, because i am above the influence!
  • To stop picking their noses and biting their nails?
  • Because they are addicted. The harsh chemicals in cigarettes keep people addicted. Young people try it because of peer pressure. The body rejects smoking at first,by making you sick. But with enough tries the body likes it. I was fortunate my body rejected it.
  • well I picked it up because this guy i used to hang with did. When we use to hangout and one night I asked for one. Now I smoke all the time. Two thing i dont like about it I smell and going outside to do it. but I havent quit because I like it and I am addicted. If i could give back I would
  • People smoke because they can't stop. They tried it probably to look cool, and they kept doing it because your first several cigarettes get you really high.
  • To you it's really gross. To another person it's just the lifestyle they've chosen. They've tried it for many reasons, some of it may be because of peer pressure and trying to look cool, but to others it may be a thing that helps them die faster, or it may be better for them then being around second hand smoke constantly. I just try not to judge others based on the bad habbits they may or may not have picked up. Cuz pretty soon, judging others could become a bad habit.
  • Why do people over eat personaly i think cleaning out a bag a chips every couple of hours is gross and we all know there are side affects Why do people drink I think beer taste like sh*t and people die from it. I don't think this is a question that could ever be answer the right way for you. you have an opinon and that is great but I think you are letting it judge for you.
  • I did it to defy my parents and to look cool, now 20 years later If I could go back and never start I would do it in an instant. I am addicted and have tried numerous times to quit without success. Fear of weight gain and fear of living till I am so old I have to wear depends are some of the lame excuses I come up in my head to not quit, in the end they are just that... lame excuses. If you dont smoke please dont start.
  • Maybe they are trying to smother the baby before it is born.
  • I have never heard that - it makes me both sad and enraged at the carelessness and selfishness of some people. I guess some people only care about themselves, to the point of stupidity and hurting other people. Downrate me if you want, but stuff like that is disgusting to me.
  • The same way they failed to get the message about protection.
  • You are overlooking the fundamental fact than many people ARE FUCKING STUPID!!!! It's quite simple. People are ignorant and either are proud of their ignorance or just too lazy to correct their ignorance. Either they know everything already and their logic is irrefutable, or they can't be bothered to learn actual facts or use real logic.
  • I think the real question is why aren't we doing a better job at teaching our kids how to protect themselves? A child has no business having a child in the first place.
  • This urban myth needs to be put to bed, we've had this appear in the UK and the authorites have found no evidence whatsoever that pregnant teenage girls are smoking to have smaller babies.
  • I don't think that has as much to do with smoking as it does with children having kids. (question was different when I answered with this)
  • What the heck happened to this question? The entire question has been changed... it's not even the same TOPIC that it was before! Most of the answers here reflect the original question, but some are answers to this question about smoking - which makes absolutely no sense! What happened to the original question?
  • New question, new answer....People knowingly do a lot of things that are bad for them. Its just that they look at the "what is good now". If you eat fattening foods, you know that it isn't good for you. All you think about is that right now its really good, but you don't think about what it could be doing to your body. Even if you do think about it, you still do it. Its the same thing with ciggarettes I belive, you smoke because you think right now, its good, and you don't think about what it is eventually going to do to your lungs.
  • i agree i strted smoking at 15 cos all my mates were doin it got addicted cant give up tried twice i am going to tho wen i have something else to take my mind off it eg work looking for a job at the moment im 18 and live in wales leave comments plz
  • I do it just for that reason =p
