  • Have a goal. Saving money? Does it mean having a net worth of $150,000 in ten years and $500,000 in 20 years? Being able to afford a vacation home or retirement in Italy? You decide. Start by defining what you mean by Standard of living. Be disciplined. The key is consistency -- sticking with your plan month after month after month. Decide where to put your money. Many people set up a savings account at their local bank or credit union and make deposits each month. (Later, as the money builds, it can be transferred into higher-yielding financial vehicles.) Others arrange direct deposits from their paychecks or make e-transfers to investment and other accounts. Yet others choose to invest in stocks, bonds, or real estate. It depends on your standard of living plan. Stop comparing. Don't compare yourself to someone who is younger than you. Or less stressed. Or more motivated. Or thinner. Or bigger. Or richer. You are free to just be you and love all that is you, regardless of what anyone else thinks! That is FREEDOM. Eat more fruits and vegetables, fewer high calorie foods, and get more exercise. Walk at least a mile every day. Share you good fortune with others. Do volunteer work at the local food bank or hospital.
