Because bulimia is partly about having control over your body. It is also partly about crippling waves of self-indulgence (binging), the guilt and anxiety that self-indulgence causes, and the physical manifestation of purging (pun definitely intended) those feelings by "refunding" what you've eaten. Much in the same sense as people cutting themselves to give a physical presence to an emotional pain and exert their own control over that pain, bulimia is not just eating and throwing up. It is an illness and an addiction that can also involve taking laxatives/diuretics, or exercising excessively. I have known a few bulimics in my life, and their problems seemed to largely stem from parents (especially mothers) who used guilt and food over their children as a means of control. Not good.

Because they feel that if they do eat, they are getting nourishment and sustenance, although they are throwing it back up.
-
Because you dont feel the sense of control over your body that taking in and then rejecting gives you. It sounds twisted and no one could really understand unless they have been through it themselves
-
Because most of them are secret bulimics and nobody knows they are barfing meals.
