The Rose “The Rose” is a pop song written by Amanda McBroom and featured in the 1979 movie The Rose, in which it was performed by Bette Midler. The singer says that love is best represented by a rose, which goes through much difficulty but later becomes beautiful

It's really just as you define. Each person has their event in life that this relates to, a special person or place it conjurs up. The song isn't really a song at all, but poetry. To me, the lyrics are other people think love is this and love is that, but love is different to each individual, and the persona believes "love is like a flower, and you, it's only seed"
