I like a Soave.. very light Italian white wine with a greenish tinge... Had a good one from Waitrose in Woodley, near Reading ,many years back... It's crisp and almost dry... tasted just like water should in a perfect world I also remember a Rioja that was particularly good - but that was ina restaurant and I can't remember where and i know it didn't cost as little as a fiver. BTW rioja is a good word to remember for scrabble

California chardonnays are the best. I don't know if you can get it in the UK but there is a reasonably price chardonnnay called J. Lohr that has a very nice oaky, vanilla and buttery taste.
