  • That it is a positive thing to do to a healthy baby.
  • One of the most common myths I’ve heard is that an intact child will just end up having it done later, due to problems. Or that the rate of medical circumcisions is some ridiculous number like 10%. In Reality, in countries (Denmark & Scandinavia) where routine circumcision isn’t practiced the medical need for circumcison is a very small fraction of 1%(1/17,000).
  • That not having it done greatly increases the risk of disease. Also, that uncircumsized guys have less sensitivity.
  • A common myth is that intact (complete) children will be taunted and tormented by others in school . Yet the rate of circumcision in the US has dropped dramatically and continues to drop in many areas (West coast the infant circ rate is about 1/3), guys just don’t go around staring at the penis of everyone around them. The people that use these arguments are showing how petty their belief system is. On the other side of the coin… , people are not telling or warning you that a circumcised child will be taunted and ridiculed by peers that are intact.
  • There are myths that circumcision will protect men and their partners from some types of cancer ... penile and cervical cancer. Yet ACS representatives have publically stated that circumcision is a distraction from the proven risks that cause these types of cancer. In 96 members of the ACS publicly stated that circumcision is not effective, and a distraction from proven behavior that contribute to penile and cervical cancer. http://www.fathermag.com/health/circ/acs/ "Portraying routine circumcision as an effective means of prevention distracts the public from the task of avoiding the behaviors proven to contribute to penile and cervical cancer: especially cigarette smoking, and unprotected sexual relations with multiple partners.
