  • Exactly. If you already know the answer, then why ask? I never give points to both the question and the answer when the questioner answers their own question. If the question is a decent one, I give it the points. Of course, I don't DR the answer either, since it is not by definition "unhelpful," but it just seems superfluous. The only exception is when an answer is used to expand or qualify a question. That's OK in my book - but it's still not worthy of any points.
  • Yes, it can be annoying. It seems like they just wants others to know their opinion, they dont really care what yours is. I have seen where they will even answer it a few times, I just laugh, they must be having fun talking to their selves, maybe they multiple personalities, LOL..... The only way I think it is acceptable, if it is a congrats question, quiz questions or a musical question. I also see some that have been here awhile do it, not just new ones, they may not know, if they are new, but the ones that have been here awhile, do know.
  • Hard call. In a way it seems lame but I've thought this over in the past. In one sense it seems logical to do that. Consider that it builds up the question database. In areas not well known, such as some distant branch of science, there may be a specific question that no one on AB but that specific user could answer. For the question to not be asked and not be answered would in effect mean lost knowledge. We all eventually die and all knowledge not shared is a lost asset. But asking and answering the question it ensures that that knowledge is not lost. A person Googling that topic would be led to the question in his search and the knowledge that would have been lost has been passed on. That's sort of our legacy. Outwardly it seems foolish but in some situations it isn't foolish at all. Answerbag and ulitimately humanity are the beneficiaries. That said, I've seen questions like "My girlfriend is cheating on me. What should I do?" answered by the same person who asked the question! THAT is foolish.
  • It doesn't bother me. Perhaps they learned the answer and wanted to update us or if it is an opinion-type of answer I would like to hear the opinion of the asker, too.
  • They get confused and don't know how to comment so they sometimes write the comment in the answer box.. I guess it is normal till they get use to the AB page..
  • I've answered my own question one time and it was because no one seemed to understand the question, so I basically reposted it with changed dialouge.
