  • 30.'06 Springfield
  • This rifle was adopted by the United States Army in 1936. At that time the US was using, as its standard Army rifle, the Spirnglfield 1903A3, a bolt-action, clip fed (5 rounds) rifle firing a .30 caliber cartridge adopted in 1906. The .30 caliber cartridge was called the 30-06 (or 30/06 or 30.06 or other variations of the same 4 digits) named after the caliber and it's year of adoption. Caliber is the measurement of the diameter of the bore (opening of the rifle)measured in hundredths of inches. a .30 caliber is 30/100 of an inch in diameter, or 3/10 of an inch diameter. a .50 caliber would be half in inch in diameter.

  • M1 used 30.'06, though some are chambered in .308.
