Is it really necessary for American footballers to wear ALL that padding and helmet and everything?

• Have you seen the size of rugby players? They're just as big. The Newzealand All Blacks are flipping well scary! But they're all just men, I don't see why some need padding and some don't?

• To tell you the truth I think America is so anal about alot of things that it has made us woosies at a lot of things. Everyone isso ready to sue that it is just in our nature to have all kinds of rules for everything.

• well the sport are different, I know both and the type of physical contact allowed calls for those protective pads. If you take the pads then you'd have to change the rules and you'll end up having a totally different sport.

• Perhaps they might need the shoulder pads, but I can't see why they need helmets and faceguards and kneepads and everything? They might aswell just go out there in a suit of armour!
