Usually about 1 potato per person is a good measure. If you are serving people who will eat a lot of pototoes then I would cook up about 10 extras.

two potatoes each for female and three for male, i cook for larger numbers occasionally, depends on time of day too usually for a later eve meal the above amount is fine but if its for lunch or early in the day i would go for less

It depends on what else is on the menu -- but I'd go with 20 to 25 pounds of potatoes.

My mum always said, 1 potato per person + one for the pot (i always end up with a bit much with this method - guess the pot doesn't need one!).
