  • what about an change in attitude? Look, millions of people have gone thru it and many of them have enjoyed it, how I see it? your main problem is attitude. Yes, perhaps, many of your soon-to-be mates will seem stupid to you but find your niche and get strength out of them, there is always smart and caring people you can count on if you decide to fight and find them and become one yourself.
  • You have a whole month to talk your parents into home-schooling you. We did and are very happy with the results.
  • I agree with tigueron but I will add that, for me when things got nasty (and at a performing arts high school, they can get really nasty) I told myself that I was a third party observer making a documentary. Seriously. It may sound stupid but it helped me stay above the fray a bit when things were rough.
  • just remeber that you're not the only one in the world who dreads highschool-forever whatever reason. Be it that you're more mature than people there and you find them exhausting, or be it just because you'd rather be at home. PLently of people hate school. So just relax, find a clam place to be in your head (i.e. try writing it helps me) and try to keep your composure until Christmas break.
  • Well RFlagg, I endorse everything Auntie Em said. But I also think that if you go in with the commitment to just do your best with the situation, you'll find it's tolerable. Yes, there will be idiocy on a monumental scale. But even though you're more advanced than your peers, you should find at least a few there who are similarly advanced. If you pay attention, you'll find them. I was in a similar situation in High School -- I was home schooled until the end of my freshman year and then dumped into the system. For about a year I pretty much kept to myself, they all seemed to be idiots. But I did find a few good friends anyway. Of course, later on I went off the deep end with drugs and petty crime, but that wasn't really a reaction to school -- it was family stuff. You'll live. But I do think you should drop the whole bit about how terribly stupid everyone else is. It's true, but harping on it just makes you sound intensely self-absorbed. It's not pretty, and for sure won't help to make your high school career enjoyable if you're intent on sharing your view with the other students at each opportunity.
  • My heart goes out to you. I felt the same way when I was in school. All I can say is that it will be over before you know it. They say the people who were not as happy with the early part of their life become much happier the older they get and the people who had a great time with the earlier part (as in highschool) will not be as happy as they get older. I have found this to be true. So look! The best is yet to come!
  • Stear clear of all bathrooms. Seriously, every time I go near one of those things I have the urge to run in, smash my hand into the mirror and end it.
  • Watch the first 3 seasons of the "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" television show. The basic theme of the show is that "High School is Hell" (literally). It might give you a tragi-comic perspective on most the 'problems' you'll face in that environment. Also remember, it's only 3 (or 4) years. It may seem like a long time now, but you'll be amazed how little it matters to you after you get through it. Good luck
