  • Just to add something more. I don't eat more then I need, and as far as I know the animals are killed in the most effective way. Now I'm sure that there are people out there that are killing animals in inhumane ways and I think that's disgusting in every way. However, I'm pretty sure that it's not the majority, otherwise I think that more then 2.3% of people would be vegetarians (i.e. no meat, poultry, fish/seafood). I could go on explaining my position further but I'll stop there to see what sort of answers I get. Keep in mind though that I'm not trying to get in a fight with a vegetarian and I'm not trying to get vegetarians to start eating meat.
  • Some people have nothing better to do than to try to convert people to their own views. some go with religion, some with dietary needs. fact-people need protein fact-people have been eating animals since before the ice age fact-people get some proteins from plant life fact-all animals get their source of nutrition from years of evolution, genetics decides what food sources are available, and what would best be suited for a particular species most people want to fit into a group and this usually means trying to recruit others into the group.
  • I don't have a problem with people eating meat. I choose not to due to the treatment of animals and the environmental impact it has. I also don't have a problem with animals eating other animals. What else are they supposed to eat? They can't go to the store and buy soy products or grow veggies in a garden.
  • Most humans do not hold non-humans to human ethical standards. Likewise, most vegetarians don't worry too much about what other species choose to eat. The digestive system of a cat (a carnivore) is too short to properly digest plants in their raw form. A cat could not choose to become a vegetarian; it would be impossible to get sufficient nutrition naturally. The longer digestive system of a human (which can digest plant and animal foods) gives us the flexibility to choose a plant-based, animal-based, or mixed diet. Some vegetarians feel so strongly about the ethical or environmental reasons for vegetarianism that they believe it is wrong, in an absolute sense, for humans to eat meat. Just as looting, slavery, or human murder is wrong (for everyone, in an absolute sense), killing for food is also wrong. I think that most vegetarians don't "have a problem" with meat eaters. Some vegetarians are very vocal. Most just go about their eating in private. Personally, I disagree ethically with your decision to eat meat. However, I respect your right to make your own educated decision.
  • i'm a veggo, but i don't have a problem with you. i just personally don't believe in eating meat...your eating it has no impact on me.
  • people need a cause. However, i will say that vegetarians probably think its ok for animals to eat other animals b/c that is part of survival, while humans can survive on no meat. But, i'm not vegetarian. I love meat. Humans have become smarter over time, and many people believe that it is because we started eating meat... the protein and other things in it are good for our brains, muscles, etc.
  • People just need some reason to make other people miserable. While I totally agree that the excesive death and waste of so many animals is needless, we do need meat for the proper vitamins, and even older cultures who were as one with nature killed animals for food. There's no need to vomit one's beliefs over others and try to make them feel bad. Most of those people probably aren't spewing forth real naturalist vehemence, I bet they eat fish and eggs anyways.
  • I have heard it put like this: some vegetarians think eating meat is a "waste" when it come to the food chain. Humans can get all the protein we need from plant sources, so why should we feed plants to animals, then kill the animals for food? Other vegetarians believe it's cruel the way animals are raised and treated. Plus the types of chemicals used can get into our own bodies. I don't think many vegetarians judge people that eat meat too harshly. They prefer to be left alone and usually do the same.
  • Im vegan and to me its not a belief, its a lifestyle.. The only time i have a problem with "meat-eaters" is when they are being insensitive towards me. To answer your q about cats and birds, all animals kill and eat what they NEED and only that. Humans, however, are greedy and cruel and tend to kill hundreds of animals daily. Approx 30% of which doesnt get eaten :(
  • You are equating your intelligence with a cat? Animals do what is instinctive. The theory is that humans are more intelligent, and have the means to make a more ethical, and healthier (according to the American Dietetic Association) choice. Yes, it is your right not to care. That doesn't make it ethical.
