  • Sounds like he's making a statement, concerning the cage; or, he's just being a bunny.
  • It's harder for a young rabbit to actually be litter box trained than an older one. I think he may just have been using it because he liked the spot but wasn't trained yet. That takes quite awhile to do. Newspaper isn't a very good thing to use in a litter box as they also love to shred things. Try one of the natural organic type of litters and also give him something to shred or dig in besides his litter box. Don't expect your rabbit to only use the litter box as far as his droppings are concerned. They will do those outside as they use it to make their territory. But if you train your rabbit to consider it's cage as it's domain and your home as belonging to you, it may learn to not drop droppings around the house. They can be trained to only urinate in the box. Do you know for sure that the rabbit is urinating outside the box or is it just missing the box and it's shooting past and over the edge? If your rabbit, once trained, goes outside of the box, look to see if it's being stressed or has a bladder infection.
