Do you think it is best to enter most situations with few expectations to avoid disappointment?

For me personally, I always have high expectations for myself and near zero expectations of others. So if other mess up or even strategize against me a bit, that's still a lot better than how bad it could have been. But for myself, I would like to meet my expectations even though no one else notices. Yes, that is an ideal and sometimes another person acts like a friend or ally and then I foolishly set an expectation of them as a result. Invariably, I find that this was a mistake...though I can count a few people who have kept meeting my expectation...but only a very few.
