If you go to the bank, and speak to them, sometimes they will waive the fees.

It's tough. If you have a history of over drafting but have never disputed the fee then they will usually give you back about half. If you have disputed them before they usually aren't likely to give in. If you have a valid dispute you should gather as much info as you can and bring it with you.

Both of the previous answers are correct. But you must keep in mind that every bank's policies are different when it comes to overdrafts. Most banks, however, will waive the fees once, as a courtesy, then add a note to your account that the courtesy has been used. But it must be noted that typically, banks give their branch managers the authority to waive any fees they feel necessary depending on the customer's relationship with the bank. It sounds completely backward, but usually the customers with the most high balance accounts pay fewer fees, while those with one free checking account with a minimum balance end up paying for everything. Crazy, I know, but that's business for you. Banks are just a business like anything else.
