I duno, I like all kinds of electronic music, I like drum n bass, trance, idm, techno, electronica you name it...I think people that are homophobic tend to associate it with gay lifestyles, I think people tend to think all of it is just that clubby thump thump thump thump stuff and people don't always get the concept of music without lyrics or traditional structures.

Because most people, especially here in the U.S., prefer lyrical music over melodic. That's why rap, country, and catchy pop music thrive while electropop, techno, trance, house, instrumental indie, folk rock, and classical don't so much. It's a shame. I mostly listen to trance, indie/folk rock, trip hop, and classical, and most of my friends can't stand a lot of it simply because they "don't understand the point of it," as if music is suppose to be defined. :/ To answer your question: do you publicize the fact that you like trance music? If you're totally decked out in nerdy fan-boy / raver clothing, then yeah, people are going to be mean about that, but otherwise, I can't really understand why people wouldn't like you for your taste in music, unless that's all you talk about. My advice: just tell people you listen to some underground music and leave it at that since they likely have no idea as to what bands/artists you refer to are anyway.

im on the same ship here, i get asked all the time, theyll be like "o hey whatcha listenin to?" and ill say tiesto or somethin, (whatever im listenin to lol) and there like "what?" then ill tell them its trance/electronic and then they look at me like im speeking swahili or something and they ask what that is and i tell'em----and i just get a dirty look of disgust......its ashamed that people in the u.s. dont have an understanding of why electronic music is worth listening to....there addicted to the mainstream sex pimps and hoes that everyone sings about in pop hip-hop rap etc....with electronic music, its all about tapping in to your inner mind, and letting it explode its endless posibilities upon everyone to enjoy lol. especially with trance, which i listen to 24/7- trance for me is a stress reliever, and sort of--takes me from reality, and keeps me in my own zone,so when those people who think of you as an unusual human being just because your listening to the amazing sounds they have not had the priveledge to listen to come to you and confront you about it....tell them to get a life, because you already have one hahahaha
