  • The Mormons consider themselves Christian, why wouldn't they celebrate Christmas?
  • The reasons that the LDS faith celebrate Christmas is quite simple. Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith hence the actual name of our church "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints". Also let me share with you our first Article of Faith (1 of 13) Article of Faith 1 "We a believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.". Therefore if we believe in Jesus Christ and we know that he is the cornerstone of our religion, then just as we celebrate and honour his Atonement we must do the same for his birth. Without his birth we wouldn't have anything else to celebrate. Hope this helps you and thanks for your interest.
  • Because we rejoice in and enjoy celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. We are christians.
  • The reason I asked is because it seems that dates and record keeping is very important to LDS so they must be aware that the current date celebrated for Jesus birth is inaccurate. There are even non-religious people that celebrate Christmas. But shouldn't Christians take more responsibility to do things right or more accurate? Especially considering the fact that that special day was originally a pagan holiday and it just had it's name changed. I don't see how Jesus would be happy with that. Besides, I recall his death was stressed as more important than his birth.
  • yeah wanna be mormon, that was agresstive especially since he was right about the date thing, we've always aknowledged that it was the incorrect date of Christ birth... however, its universally acknowledged as a day to remember Christ's birth and even thoug techinqaully we should be remembering it every day, the church leaders have never said it's a sin to celebrate it and we should join in the Christian community and celebrate it. Truth is we could b like the jehovoah witness' and not celebrate it (i'm not saying their wrong, I know lots of good JW's) but we do for the above reason, i hope this helps
  • Mormons believe that April 6 is the true date of birth of Jesus of Nazareth. "Presidents of the Church, including Harold B. Lee, have reaffirmed that April 6 is the true anniversary of Christ's birth, but have encouraged Church members to join with other Christians in observing Christmas as a special day for remembering Jesus' birth and teachings." (Source: Encyclopedia of Mormonism) I wonder why you specifically asked this question about Mormons -- the question applies equally well to all Christian faiths, since it's pretty well accepted in most if not all Christian circles that Christ was actually born in the spring.
  • I am a Mormon (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and we are Christian. That is why we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour. A lot of people don't know a lot about the church - and thats okay. At least you asked instead of making up answers :)
  • For the same reason the rest of the Christian World does, as a celebration of the Birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Savior.
  • Because we can! And because we enjoy spreading cheer and good will among all our family's, friends and acquaintances. Some of you are concerned about Jesus not being born on Dec. 25th. So what! Do any of you know the exact day he was born? We do, but we do not feel the day is as important as the event itself. Which is more important, the day he was born or the fact that he was born and we can all benefit from his life on earth? We choose to focus on the fact that he lived, taught by example and died for our sins and brought about our Resurrection, that we might live again. Some of you seem to think we are not Christians, but you fail to realize that your ONLY claim to being Christians yourselves, is that you CLAIM to be Christian. None of you can qualify as Christians according to the Bible. But we have no problem allowing you to make your claims anyway. I could go into more detail, but this has nothing whatsoever to do with the question...Later
  • Because if they ONLY celebrated Joseph Smith's birthday then it would be too obvious. They have to celebrate Christ's birth too, just to seem normal.
