  • I think that will really depend on who you are talking to ;)
  • I think all those words are offensive. But different people will take them different ways.
  • I dont understand why people take offense to any words it doesnt make sense to me. Im Jewish, Kike doesnt insult me one bit.
  • I think it depends on the person, some people have had some really bad experiences so do get offended easily, and others could care less if they're called either. When it really comes down do it, they are all discriminating words and would be better off left unsaid.
  • Yeah, 'nigger' is pretty offensive. And so are the other two. But some people feel like certain words have mroe fuel and hate bhind them.I personally think that if a word was made from hate/ment to hurt then it's offensive. I find the 'n-word' more offensive but I still cringe a bit when hearing the other two.
  • i don't think offensive tags such as those are on a rating scale... they're all the same to me. why would one be worse than the other? they're all derogatory. i have black friends and gay friends and gay black friends and i would be offended equally if someone referred to one of them as any of those names
  • I think that both terms need to be clarified by the groups affected by them. If a term is offensive, it should ALWAYS be offensive and not used so comfortably by the groups who claim to be offended. That's just insane. You can't pick and choose when it's offensive and when it's not and be taken seriously in my humble opinion. And by "you" I means the universal "you" not you specifically...just to clarify. :D
  • They are both up there in terms of the negative connotations of using them. They both represent hate, fear, violence and murder, and are despicably used to attempt to lower a person to a sub-human level. The words and letters are innocuous, but when they are directed at a person in the same manner in which they were used in times past, they cut bitterly and remind the victim that many still see them as sub-human. No, nigger is not more offensive than fag, but it has been a taboo word for longer, and it is understood better by the society at large the reasons why we do not use these words.
  • From a linguistic standpoint, it doesn't make sense why this word is so offensive. Black should probably be offensive since most of them are not really black colored. African American is not so accurate since Africa is a whole continent full of many countries that may or may not share the same complexion. Even so, what does it truly mean to have the added ethnic modifier in front of "American" despite the fact that most black people are natural born citizens? Does it mean you are another kind of American? Why do white people call themselves just "American"? Anyway my answer is nigger is more offensive than fag or faggot, but it shouldn't be.
  • Both are equally offensive but what stands out about both is lack of imagination. If you feel you must insult someone put some thought into it! I’m bisexual someone using the ‘ F ‘ word is not going to make or brake me. It may be different for black people IDK. What usually happens when someone uses that word in my presence is I feel sorry for the user. I mean you’re basically telling the world you’re a dolt.
  • Well of course both are offensive, and one can hurt one person as much as the other can hurt another person. Everything is circumstantial, esp. when arguing if one thing causes more emotional damage than something else. Nigger pulls up memories of a race of people idnapped and enslaved to build a country that they weren't really allowed to be part of. Very terrible! Faggot is an Old English term for a piece of kindling or a bundle of sticks used to start fires, referring to the era when homosexuals were burned at the stake for being who they were born to be. Both draw upon painful events of the past to demoralize a minority. I guess you should ask which is worse... being enslaved or being burned at the stake.
  • I find this question amusing in that people who would never dream of using the "N" word use fag and faggot in answers on AB all the time and no one bats an eye. Especially if it is in a "joke" form to make fun of someone who obviously is not gay. An example would be a question where someone asked "what would you NEVER say to a hells angel?" The gay remarks and the term fag and faggot were in many answers. These were answers by supposedly "liberal" users. I wondered if they asked "what would you NEVER say to Martin Luther King?" if anyone would call him the "N" word. I seriously doubt it.
  • To each particular group they are equally offensive. For straight folks who are not black, I'd say there would be a wide range of answers - if anyone ever conducted a true, in-depth study.
  • Id say both words would be offensive. I can't tell you which one would be more offensive just don't say them around certain people who might take offense to the words.
  • I strongly disagree. With this age of rap music I feel nigger has been used more and more often, and we've been desensitized toward it. Fag or faggot seems far more hurtful to me.
  • Well, as a faggot myself (two g's, not one) who is also white, I wouldn't want to say that that particular word hurts my feelings more or less than the "n" word hurts my black friends. . I don't think that it's productive to enage in a relative ranking of bigoted insults. . At the end of the day, the fact that someone who uses them knows that they're intended to be hurtful means that your attention is most appropriately directed to their deficiences as a human being, rather than on how successful they are in various ways of hurting other people.
