In truth, everything in the fantasy category that came after LOTR has ridden the coat tails of the master trilogy of the genre.

No. The fantasy genre has existed LONG before JRR Tolkien.

Fantasy began from the myths and legends of Europe, so tales like King Arthur, Beuwolf, etc defined the fantasy style long before their was a style.

Eragon, The Harry Potter series, the Magic Compass, and any other fantasy novel or film are simply continuing in that literary style.

Eragon and Arya, Eragon and Arwin...Orks and Urgals...Magic and wizards... Dwarfs , Orik and Gimly...Elves... Each have a map and a language of their own. There are many similarities, clearly Christoper got inspiration from the LOTR trilogy..It's great I loved the LOTR , I was sad when it ended. Although I don't think that the Eragon trilogy is riding the coat tails,it gave LOTR , and fantasy lovers another story. The movie could have been better, although one of my favorite actors is John Malkovich I was very dissipointed in how much was left out. It should have been longer, like the LOTR movies.I love the books and can't wait for the third to come out.. Happy reading

No, I don't think so. I mean you could compare almost every single fantasy story in the world to lord of the rings and find MANY simalarities. I mean it also seems alot like Harry Potter in lots of ways.

BOB!!! I saw the movie!!! And this is my opinion as follows... It was better than the Never Ending Story, and D&D. But not as good as LOTR. I really only had one gripe with the movie...They left alot out, and added somethings that they could have done without. But all in all it wasnt a bad movie! I would give it an 8/10 rating (for reasons I mentioned)

Im not sure, but the movie Eragon kind of seems like it will be like the Never ending story which I loved when I was growing up, plus I love fantasy movies with dragons and things like that. I'l most likely go see it :).

I don;'t see what Eragon has to do with LOTR. They are nothing alike.

Well. . . there are a TON of similarities. . . four raaces: elves, dwarves, men, and urgals/orcs--one of the main thimgs that's the same, but you have to keep in mind that they're both fantasy. And the movie sucked compared to the books. Just saying.
