  • Which came first, the chicken or the egg? By getting stronger, you are able to lift more weight. By lifting more weight, you make you muscles grow and you get stronger. It's a self-feeding cycle of growth and advancement.
  • Yes, up to a point. Say you can bench 60kg maximum. You can probably therefore bench 50 kg maybe 10x in a set. So you do sets of these. As you get better at this and your muscles get stronger and larger, then you can perhaps do 15 x 50kg in a set, or can perhaps now do 5 reps of 60kg, and perhaps your new maximum one rep is 70kg. At some point you will reach a physical plateau, whereby physiologically your muscles are incapable of lifting anything more than that, regardless of how much you try. This is obvious when you think about it as muscle fibres must have a limit to what forces they can oppose by contracting, simply due to the chemical processes that occur when the fibres contract. Hence why people can't pick up buildings and stuff.
  • yes with a natural limit of course, might I suggest a more affective approach to pecks other than bench: try butterflies on an inlcine bench, works more muscles in the chest
  • yes and no. if you can bench more weight than previously you've gotten stronger, but you can't bench more than your physical strength allows. so you can't just "lift more weight" to get stronger indefinately, there's limits if you mean "more" by repeition, than defiantely that increases strength, repeition is far more important that doing 1 or 2 extremely hard lifts
  • What do you mean 'more'? More as in the amount of weight? or more as in frequency? Or more as in repetitions? If you mean in the amount of weight then yes, depending on your goal this will help to increase mass. Tearing down the muscle and rebuilding it over and over again will mean lots of food in between workouts. 'Strong as in your preparing for bicycling competition, that's more an endurance issue you're body will rise to it's demands over time.
