They are quite similar. Siddharta (Buddah's former name) was a person who went from a human being trapped in worldly life, thoughts, desires. He denounced them all. He was tempted and tormented by all human foibles until he reached the state of non-desire. This does not mean apathy, it means that you are not attached to the outcome of anything and therefore are free. I'm oversimplifying a very profound truth here, but if you want a really good book that I read a long time ago, try Siddharta by Hermann Hesse. Its a dynamite start for spiritual seekers everywhere. Not boring. Hinduism, I believe, is the oldest spiritual system on the planet. People have the wrong idea that Hindu embraces the idea that there is more than one God. Rather, it displays that God is all forms. The artwork portraying Hindu gods show them with many limbs. It is an ancient way to portray that God can do all things at once. Brahma is God as Creator, Vishnu is God as Protector and Shiva is God as destroyer of darkness. So God is the Source and all sources. There is only One God. All the major faiths will back this idea up. Blessed Be to all forms of worship of the Divine.
