probably not. i think it's good preparation for school five days a week, and if he gets into sports later in life, he may have practice five days a week as well. it's good to teach work ethic and time management early on. you'd probably be able to tell if it is stressing him out.

I think that's awesome - bedtime will never be a problem with all that activity! Make sure he's enjoying the things you put him in though - let him start trying to decide what he does and doesn't like. Also, don't forget the 1-on-1 time between yourself and him - you'll appreciate the closeness more and more as he gets older.

That is an awful lot for a 3 year old. Where are you going to go from there? Keep storytime at the library and either preschool or karate -- not both. Children need downtime. Here's a great article about the stress that children feel from too many activities. It's in Psychology Today. http://psychologytoday.com/articles/pto-20030304-000002.html

School for a three year old? I thought that stuff started at like six or five or something. I have a two year old, close to three, and I teach her all she needs to know. She could count to like 12, know most letters by sight, knows her animals, and sings songs. Unless they teach algebra in a third grade classroom, the parents could cover that field.

It depends entirely on how hyper and social the 3 year old likes to be. We had to keep my son busy as well. He couldn't stand being still.

Well karate is fun, and i think mental stimulation is fine just as long as he gets breaks when he needs them...as well as snacks...and make sure he plays...goes outside nd runs around like an idiot...like all chilren should...altho 3 mite be too young for that lol

I don't think so! It's different for every kid... If your kid seems to prosper from it, I say it's great! My daughter just turned two... we'll be looking for a preschool very soon. She's a little young for any type of 'lesson', but I usually take her to Sea World once a week, the zoo another day, and the children's museum another. Channeling her energy in proper directions is a challenge every one of her waking minutes. I think karate is an excellent practice - especially for high energy kids.

Not too much, but perhaps enough in terms of outside activities. You sound wonderful. However, he will need to be busy more than that with projects at home to supplement those. We have our grandson most of the time and he is three months shy of 3. McDonald's Play Place is a favorite for him and for us. He organizes all sorts of games with the other kids and we can sip a soda and read/write/study or even make business calls. I take him with me to the gym because they have a wonderful child care with all sorts of games, equipment to climb on, books, and activities. That is good free play and it only costs me $2. He loves to ride wherever we go in the car. He also loves playing outside, but he likes for us to watch what he is doing so sometimes I read the same paragraph 3 or 4 times. PBS Kids is my friend for down time. Rituals help - things we do at certain times every day. We do our own story time too as I am sure you do. I am sure you are very, very busy. It takes my wife, my son, me, and his mother twice a week to keep up with this little guy, but he is a 100% delight.
